PhotonAC solar hybrid HVAC

Solar Air Conditioning in Arizona

Comfort Systems of Arizona offers a selected PhotonAC lineup: direct DC solar hybrid mini splits that run on sunshine first and lean on the grid when the sun can't keep up. Sized and installed by our family from Flagstaff to Greater Phoenix.

  • Panels feed the unit directly
  • Grid backup when connected
  • No battery required
  • 5 product families

How it works through the day

Solar panels connect straight to the outdoor unit. Savings come from offsetting the daytime grid kilowatt-hours your AC would otherwise use, which is exactly when Arizona cooling demand peaks. Tap a condition to see where the power comes from.

Sunlight runs the system first

DC power flows straight from the panels into the unit. No battery or external inverter is required for direct-solar operation, so on a Arizona afternoon the running power comes from the roof.

What affects your savings

Direct solar reduces the grid energy your AC uses during daylight. How much depends on a few real-world factors.

Where savings come from

A conventional air conditioner draws every watt from the grid. A PhotonAC hybrid feeds DC power from its panels directly into the unit, so each hour the sun covers part or all of the running power is an hour of grid energy you did not buy.

When sunlight falls short, a grid-connected unit fills the gap automatically. Savings are therefore tied to the AC's own daytime energy use, not your whole utility bill.

We do not promise specific savings, payback or tax credits. We will talk through your situation honestly.
  • Daytime runtime

Solar can only offset power the unit uses while the sun is up. Arizona cooling peaks in the afternoon, which lines up well with solar production.

  • Shading and orientation

Trees, chimneys, neighboring buildings and panel angle reduce how much sunlight reaches the panels.

  • Season and weather

Monsoon clouds, short winter days and low winter sun angles in Flagstaff all change solar input.

  • Your utility tariff

What each grid kilowatt-hour costs you, including time-of-use pricing, changes the value of every hour solar covers.

  • Model and load

The right model for your space, sized from a professional load assessment, affects how hard the unit works and how much it draws.

Manufacturer warranty coverage

PhotonAC publishes the following coverage. Terms are model-specific and governed by the manufacturer's written warranty, which we review with you before you order.

10 yr

Parts

The current catalog lists a 10-year parts warranty, subject to written terms. Do not assume labor or installation is covered; we confirm those terms separately.

25 yr

Solar panels

The manufacturer's homepage lists a 25-year panel warranty, subject to its written terms.

30 yr

Production

A published 30-year production guarantee of at least 80% of rated panel output, subject to written terms.

Solar AC questions

Does solar air conditioning work at night?

Only with a grid connection. The units run directly on DC solar power when the sun is available, and a grid-connected hybrid draws utility power when sunlight is insufficient or after dark. A solar-only setup depends on available sunlight.

Do I need batteries or an inverter?

Per the manufacturer, batteries and an external inverter are not required for direct-solar operation, because the panels feed the unit with DC power.

Will it send power back to the grid?

A direct DC solar unit powering its own air conditioner is different from a grid-tied export system. How your unit is wired, and what local permits or utility rules apply, is something we review with you for your specific install.

Can it handle Flagstaff winters and Phoenix heat?

Heating and cooling capability is model-specific. That is why we do a professional load assessment for your home, elevation and exposure rather than sizing by square footage alone.

How much will I save?

It depends on how much daytime runtime solar covers, your shading, the season and your tariff. We look at your actual situation rather than quoting a number up front. We do not promise specific savings or tax credits.
